IT’S OFFICIAL – WE’RE DEBT FREE!!!

This isn’t me but it’s exactly how I’m feeling! We’re debt free! We finally did it, one year and 5 days after starting this blog, we’ve paid off $27,000 worth of debt. I can’t believe the feeling of freedom we both have. In the lead-up to the final payment, I started getting a bit blase about how it would feel to finally get there. But now I am just savouring every minute of this!

We’re not rushing out to celebrate tonight. My husband is working his biggest weekend of the year – wouldn’t you know it? 🙂 – but our wedding anniversary is on in the next few days and we’ll go out to dinner for that.

I am just so grateful to be able to start moving on to focus on the great things ahead for us. I think I’ll even swap my tickers around from Monday to signify the switch to a new focus – savings. It will be nice to be able to legitimately start entertaining the thought of funding our home deposit.

I am just so excited and raring to get started on the challenges ahead.

Aww, shucks. Thanks bj, I appreciate that! We’ve had a few little lump sums help us get there, but mostly it’s just been effort. Having an audience has kept me accountable and helped me get there quicker, no question!

Thanks to everyone for such kind comments and thoughts – having you all comment is really helping me understand the enormity of what we have achieved. Part of me just wants to make out like it’s not such a big deal (like I always do when I achieve something 🙂 ). But this has been a huge effort on the part of my husband too, and even my little boy has made sacrifices (thought I doubt he’s noticed!). So to write this off as `not a big deal’ would undervalue their efforts too. Thanks again, I really, really appreciate it!

    Revel in your achievements!

It’s funny how us Australians especially make light of achievements, must the be whole Tall Poppy thing of not wanting to big note ourselves.

You’ve done an amazing thing in an incredibly short period of time and you should be so proud of yourselves! Shout it from the rooftops, even if it is only online.

Thanks, too, for writing about it. Reading about a real person’s struggles with and eventual vanquishing of deep debt gives hope to those who wonder if they’ll ever get out from under. How does it feel to be a role model?
Celebrate this terrific accomplishment — frugally, of course.

Thanks again to everyone who’s commented here.
A role model? Me? Ha! It feels surreal. It has really made so much difference to the level fo tension in my life. I am so happy to be in this situation and really have to encourage everyone who still has some debt to work out, just do whatever you have to to get to this position.
